Symposium Transforming Freight Movement through ITS
Wednesday October 23, 2019, 09:00-10:30 and 14:00-17:30

Organizers: Bernard Jacob (Europe), Richard Easley (North America), Wen-Tung Chiu (Asia) + Laetitia Dablanc (Europe)

The symposium Transforming Freight Movement through ITS (TFMI) was launched initially at the 22nd ITS World Congress in Bordeaux in 2015, with the support of the OECD/ITF (International Transport Forum), of ERTRAC, FEHRL, IFRTT, ISWIM and PIARC. After the success of the first edition, and an active participation of speakers and panelists of all around the World, further editions were organised at the 24th and 25th ITS Word congresses in Montreal (2017) and Copenhagen (2018), as well as at the European ITS congress in Strasburg (2017). The symposium consists of a series of two to four Special Interest Sessions (SIS) over one day. Each SIS addresses a specific topic, all of them being complementary and covering the main challenges of road freight transport in order to propose solutions and best practices, implementing ITS solutions, and reporting users cases.

This year in Singapore, within the 26th ITS World Congress, the symposium consisted of three SIS forming the three parts of the event:
Part 1 (SIS25). Efficient and sustainable operation of commercial vehicles on highways
Part 2 (SIS30). Connected and Automated Vehicles, and truck platooning
Part 3 (SIS35). Smart Multimodal Urban Freight and Logistics

The symposium was opened by Young-Tae Kim, General Secretary of the OECD/ITF.
15 speakers delivered keynote speeches to introduce the main topics and report the experiences and best practices from Asia, Europe and America, and three panel discussions allowed to share knowledges and opinions begween expersts and the audience.
